A Western-style painter in Japan. He painted many powerful landscapes with brilliant fresh colors. He also is famous for a specialist (an art critic) of TOMIOKA Tesai, a Japanese painter. His eldest brother is a noted writer (a novelist and poet), MASAMUNE Hakucho.
