KOYAMA Shotaro1857-1916

One of pioneers for the Western-style painting in the Maiji period. He studied under Antonio Fontanesi, an Italian guest professor of oil painting, and promoted the spread of Western-style painting in the boycott movement of it. And he brought up many painters in Fudo-sha, his private art school, so called ‘the father of art education in Japan’.
